As set forth in the United States Constitution, the U.S. House of Representatives makes & passes federal laws. The House is one of Congress’s two chambers (other being the U.S. Senate), & part of the federal government’s legislative branch. The number of voting representatives in the House is fixed by law at no more than 435, proportionally representing the population of the 50 states.
Kentucky is divided into 6 congressional districts, each represented by a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. After the 2010 Census, the number of Kentucky's seats remained unchanged. Franklin County are part of the 6th Congressional District, at the western border of the 6th District.
Based in Central Kentucky, as shown on the map, the 6th district contains the cities of Lexington (including its suburbs), Richmond, and Frankfort, the state capital. Anderson, Bath, Bourbon, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Fleming, Franklin, Madison, Menifee, Montgomery, Nicholas, Powell, Robertson, Scott, Wolfe, and Woodford counties, as well as portions of Harrison and Jessamine counties, are included in the district.
